šŸ„‚ Today, We Make History!

For far too long, the e-commerce education space has been dominated by Amazon. That changes today. The launch of Walmart Insiders is the start of a revolution. Amazon has made its bed, and now American brand owners like yourself are looking for a fresh opportunity. And more than that, you’re looking for a selling platform that actually respects you.

Walmart smelled blood in the water, and they delivered. Not only is Walmart infinitely more strict about who actually gets to sell on their platform, but they are also courting sellers with reduced selling fees.

THIS is the beauty of a free market.

Now, this might be the first issue of Walmart Insiders, BUT here’s the reality: many brands have been quietly building out their review MOATS on Walmart for years already. Think of Walmart like a 2010 Amazon when almost no one was talking about it. That’s where we are.

Build out your brand on Walmart pre-2030, and you will dominate the platform for years to come.

Walmart Insiders will be your secret weapon. Each and every week, I will be sending you an actionable growth hack and my take on the latest Walmart seller news, all in a 5-minute, easy-to-digest quick read.

The goal is simple. To help you absolutely crush your competition on Walmart. Clear as mud?

šŸš€ This Week’s Walmart Hack: Why Walmart?

I’m always encouraging Amazon sellers to think outside of the box for ways to grow their business.

And this time, I mean way outside the box. Outside of the Amazon sphere entirely!

I’m talking about taking your online presence to the next level with Walmart Marketplace.

I believe so strongly in Walmart’s current trajectory in online sales that I started Walmart Insiders, the first newsletter dedicated exclusively to Walmart Marketplace hacks and news, to share my excitement with all of you. Here are five big reasons to start the process of selling on Walmart today:

1. More Visibility – Walmart racks up over 500 million page visits a month from over 100 million unique visitors. That’s a whole lot of potential new exposure for your products! The best part? Most of these customers are NOT on Amazon! This means that these are unreached customers. A beautiful opportunity.

2. Less Competition – While Walmart does not disclose the official number of active sellers on its platform, industry reports peg the number at around 200,000, as reported by Marketplace Pulse this morning. Which sounds like a lot, until you remember you’re up against just under 2 million active sellers on Amazon 😬. This is the second digital gold rush. If you have sold on Amazon pre-2020, then you understand what I’m talking about.

3. Familiar Feeling – Fulfilled by Walmart (FBW) isn’t as robust or efficient as FBA, but it has taken great strides forward in recent years. And the process of selling and fulfilling orders should feel very familiar to Amazon sellers. It’s definitely different, but the learning curve is insanely low compared to a platform like TikTok.

4. Detailed Reports – Are you an analytics nerd like I am šŸ¤“? Then you’ll love all of the detailed marketplace reports that Walmart provides to its sellers with plenty of useful data to study and learn from. They have clearly leveraged all those ex-Amazon people and copied the best of what Amazon has done. It shows.

5. Trusted Brand – Walmart is one of the most well-recognized and trusted brands in the USA, and sellers can leverage this trust by selling on the platform, as they do with Amazon. And now with Walmart dominating Amazon in the drone race, it’s obvious to me what the future looks like for brands. Selling on both platforms is a certainty. Well, unless you hate making money.

6. Cheap PPC – Read that again. When’s the last time you experienced that on Amazon? Because this is inning 1 for Walmart, it means insanely cheap advertising costs for YOU.

7. You’re Early – Like I said in the first bullet point, there are now over 200,000 active sellers on the platform. I’ll be honest, the secret is out of the bag. On Google Trends, interest in Walmart is through the roof while interest in Amazon is dwindling. You will see haters online tell you that Walmart is a waste of your time. These people lack the ability to zoom out and forecast years into the future. Why wait until Walmart is saturated with millions of sellers? It literally makes zero sense.

Some anecdotal evidence…

Owners of Amazon native brands I’ve spoken to have seen an average Walmart revenue of about 15% of their Amazon sales. Not too shabby of a boost in sales! And with big improvements like faster shipping driven by drone technology and FBW warehouse growth on the way, I wouldn’t be surprised to see these numbers get even bigger over the next few years.

As a side note, I spoke with one of the largest Amazon agencies in America a few days ago, and they told me that Walmart now makes up 20% of their entire business. They see the pendulum swinging, and now you do too.

Now, will Walmart ever be on the same playing field as Amazon? I doubt it, but that’s irrelevant. This isn’t about Walmart vs Amazon. This is about your brand’s survival. The future is here.

Remember how I mentioned at the beginning of today’s newsletter that Walmart was courting Amazon sellers? Well, right now, they are offering 75% off referral fees. When’s the last time Amazon did that?

šŸ”„ Hot Walmart Seller News: Walmart Seller App Is a Go!

After months of beta testing that was only available to a select few Walmart sellers, the Walmart Seller App has just moved out of the beta stage and will be rolling out to ALL third-party sellers soon.

Initial feedback on the app from sellers who received early access has been overwhelmingly positive. The app is reportedly very easy to use and intuitive for Amazon sellers. Mimicking and attempting to improve on what already works well on Amazon has been an intentional effort on Walmart’s part, including hiring former Amazon FBA executives to help with this process.

Many Walmart sellers would have settled for a bad mobile app, just to have the option to step away from their computer when managing their account. But fortunately, there will be no settling this time! The phrase ā€œgood things come to those who waitā€ doesn’t always ring true, but it appears to in this case with a well-received mobile experience right around the corner.

The impressive Walmart Seller App is just another example of Walmart’s commitment to battling Amazon for supremacy in the e-commerce space. Amazon won’t be relinquishing its throne and crown any time soon, but there’s plenty of food to go around at the royal table. Why settle for just the king’s share when the up-and-coming prince’s share is also there for the taking?

Great, now I’m hungry. But you get the idea. Until next time, happy selling!
