The Summer Advantage: Start Your Q4 Walmart Planning Now

📈 Unlock the Power of Walmart Ads
Walmart is where Amazon was just ten short years ago. Now read that again.
This means cheap clicks, insane ad visibility, and very little competition.
But guess what? Amazon is one jungle, and Walmart is another. If you’re like me, you outsource all your advertising. It would be unwise to use your time to learn a new advertising platform.
My good friends at Incrementum Digital are crushing it for Walmart sellers. They are the Toyota of advertising agencies and have worked with some epic brands like Ruggable and Samsonite.
All you need to do to unlock a 15% discount and a FREE audit is respond to this email. I will connect you directly with their CEO. Your brand will be in good hands!
🚀 This Week’s Walmart Hack: The Summer Advantage: Start Your Q4 Walmart Planning Now
There’s no season quite like summer.
As kids, we counted down the days left in school until the start of summer vacation. As adults, when we aren’t fighting the heat with fans and air conditioning, we’re embracing it. Summer brings so many classic events– Pool days. Beach trips. Family vacations. Inventory planning. Barbecues.
Inventory planning may look out of place on that list to folks outside of the e-commerce world, but my fellow brands and sellers know the drill! Legendary sales numbers on the Walmart Marketplace are driven by Q4 success, and paving the path to that success starts in the summer.
So as soon as you are done turning off the grill and applying aloe to that new patch of sunburn, let’s get to work.
Time To Get Stocked Up
If you haven’t done so already, now’s the time to finalize inventory orders with your factories. Given the increase in demand and longer-than-usual production and shipping times that are typical in the fourth quarter, you’ll want to get ahead of the rush and leave yourself as much time as possible to work with.
In regards to forecasting your inventory needs, I’d recommend taking an optimistic approach, perhaps even preparing for a 20-30% uptick from last year’s Q4 numbers. Walmart’s consistent growth in recent years and its seller-friendly policies are likely to create a spike in competitively priced inventory this season, pointing to a historically strong Q4 ahead!
Negotiate New Production Deals
Take this opportunity before making your big inventory push to renegotiate your unit prices. Using a massive potential order as leverage is a great technique for negotiating discounted rates, and this is something that your factory will likely be expecting and open to.
Consider Opportunities to Resize Packaging
Another thing to consider ahead of your big Q4 order is your packaging. Are there any products in your store that have spare room in their packaging that could be cut down? Even with Walmart’s reduced Q4 storage fees, for items you expect to have a high quantity of in storage, even the most nominal cut in packaging size can quickly add up to a lot of cubic feet spared, and that translates to money back in your pocket!
Make Room For Innovation!
The holiday season will bring in a massive influx of traffic and new potential customers, but it will also bring in a lot of new competition. There’s no better time than the summer to give your listings a quick innovation audit.
What do I mean by that? Pulling an example from my own past experience, I used to sell an outdoor toy for kids that would occasionally receive complaints about sun damage. Ahead of Q4, I added a UV blocking cover to the product, improving my customers’ experiences AND differentiating my product from the competition’s.
Nobody likes getting negative reviews, but those reviews are often a goldmine of information. If there are any quick and easy fixes that you could apply or accessories you could add to improve your product line, doing so now could pay huge dividends in the fourth quarter.
Keep Planning Ahead
How much room for error will you need on shipments for things like delays at customs? Do you need a drip feed warehouse to keep extra inventory that you can later restock your WFS inventory with, or switch to seller-fulfilled orders on? Ask questions like these NOW so that you have solutions ready to go when you need them!
