🚀 This Week’s Walmart Hack: Leverage 3D to Boost Conversions

Whenever we make updates to a product listing’s text and images, we do so in the hopes that these improvements will help our product to jump off the screen at the customer.

This is, of course, just a figure of speech- for now, anyway. Considering the consistent advancements we’ve seen in technology and advertising over the last few years, it isn’t difficult to imagine a world in which 3D holographic images are literally jumping out at us while we watch TV or browse our phones.

That world isn’t quite here yet, but among those recent advancements are some really cool ways to simulate three-dimensional objects on a two-dimensional screen. And leveraging these options to display your products in 3D is a great way to boost conversion rates and customer engagement while reducing customer confusion and returns.

In last week’s newsletter, I spent some time going over what rich media was and how you could use it to level up your Walmart Marketplace product listings. This week, I want to dive a bit deeper into how you can do that with the utilization of 3D.

Let’s start with video. You all know how powerful the video format can be in advertising. This medium gives sellers the opportunity to explain and demonstrate how their product works and the value it can provide to the customer. Which is what some brands do with an infomercial-style video shot with one single still camera.

These types of videos are great, but to borrow a quote from Back to the Future’s Doc Brown, “you’re not thinking fourth dimensionally!” Or in our case, third dimensionally. Video gives us the opportunity to zoom in and out, to explore a space, and to rotate around or above, or below an object. If you aren’t already taking advantage of video to show off your products in 3D at multiple angles, think about ways you can do so in your next shoot!

And then there’s Walmart’s 360-Spin Images, which lets customers interact with your products by dragging and rotating a 3D-simulating image with their mouse or fingertip. These are created by capturing 24 images of your product (rotating it by 15 degrees each time) and then using a photo-editing tool like Photoshop or Canva to remove the backgrounds.

Once your images are ready, head over to the Media Library on your Walmart Seller Account and follow these steps:

  1. Click or tap “Add Media” and select “360-spin images”.

  2. Upload the 24 images (under 1MB each) as prompted.

  3. Add a title and press submit.

And you’re all set! Or, if you aren’t the most tech-savvy person or prefer a more professional touch, you could also reach out to one of Walmart’s approved Connected Content Solution Providers.

For now, we’ll leave the 4th dimension to theoretical physicists and science fiction flicks. But let’s get the most out of the 3rd dimension today!

🔥 Hot Walmart Seller News: The Walmart Seller App is LIVE for Everyone Now!

I was so excited for the release of the Walmart Seller App last month when I first started this newsletter that I announced the announcement that the app would soon be available to all third-party sellers after completing its beta stage.

And now I’m even more excited, because SOON has become NOW!

That’s right, this very moment. Sellers with Apple devices can download the Walmart Seller app from the iOS App Store. And as of this week, Android device users can also grab the new app in the Google Play Store.

I had heard good things about the app from beta testers, and the positive feedback has continued to roll in since it went live. The Walmart Seller app currently boasts an impressive 4.8-star rating in the App Store, and the first 10 written reviews in the store have all been positive.

It’s also been great to see the development team respond to each of these reviews and to encourage users to send suggestions for improvements their way. Actions speak louder than words, and Walmart’s actions continue to show how committed the company is to building the Walmart Marketplace into a powerhouse like Amazon for both sellers and customers alike.

A simple, clean, useful app that lets sellers manage orders, adjust pricing, and much more? I wish all smartphone apps were this conducive to productivity. But alas… maybe somewhere in the fourth dimension.
