🚀 This Week’s Walmart Hack: How to Deal With Negative Walmart Reviews

Don’t you just love pleasant surprises?

An unexpected call from an old friend? Is the product you were getting ready to buy at full price going on sale? Your favorite team pulling off an upset win?

For Amazon sellers who have dealt with the headache of trying to get negative reviews removed on that platform, the support they receive from Walmart in this endeavor often falls into that pleasant surprise category!

Walmart states that sellers can request the removal of a negative review if at least one of the following conditions is met:

  • Incorrect Star Rating: The stars do not match the sentiment expressed. For instance, the review says that the seller is excellent, but the seller received a two-star rating.

  • Inappropriate Feedback: The review contains a comment that is inappropriate or vulgar, such as profanity or slander.

  • Walmart Issue: The review reflects a negative experience caused by a Walmart system issue at no fault of the seller. These requests must include supporting evidence.

If you identify a negative review that you believe may be eligible for removal, you can follow these three steps to report it:

  • Access Seller Center: Log in to your Walmart Seller Center account.

  • Submit a Request: Go to the "Performance ratings and reviews" section and find the option for product feedback removal requests.

  • Provide Details: Submit a ticket including the product type, review date, customer nickname, link to the item page, the reason for removal, and a screenshot of the review.

On the fence about whether or not a negative review qualifies for removal? I always suggest that sellers not be shy. Do you suspect that the review comes from a bad actor, like a competitor? Does it contain any rude or bad language? Confusion on whether it was meant to be positive?

When in doubt, try it out! Walmart’s customer service team tends to be pretty fair and reasonable, so there’s no harm in making your case even when it isn’t crystal clear.

🔥 Hot Walmart Seller News: Walmart Just Stole the Checkout Button!

Over the last few months, I’ve covered many examples of how Walmart has closely emulated Amazon’s tools and services. This makes sense given how much success Amazon has enjoyed in the e-commerce space– why WOULDN’T Walmart want to follow this proven road map to the top of the mountain?

But as interesting as it is to analyze the similarities between these two companies, I find it even more interesting to hone in on the instances in which Walmart deviates from the Amazon path. The main one I’ve previously discussed is Walmart’s focus on seller-friendly policies, from the easier negative review removal process mentioned above to reduced holiday storage rates. Today, I’m covering another one; Walmart’s embracing of an AI-driven future.

While Amazon has rolled out some in-house AI tools, it has taken a hard stance against tools like ChatGPT, blocking AI crawlers from accessing the site. Walmart is going in the opposite direction. The company announced a new partnership with OpenAI this month that will soon allow customers to shop Walmart through ChatGPT with Instant Checkout.

Meal prep? Restocking essentials? Party planning? Discovering new products? Walmart envisions a future in which users simply chat about their wants and needs with ChatGPT, and Sparky (Walmart’s customer-facing AI tool) takes care of the rest. Curating and selecting products, the checkout process, done and done.

I imagine some of you are shaking your heads right now? “Letting a computer shop for me? No chance!” And maybe that’s true– maybe you’ll always do your own shopping, a practice that might someday be referred to as the old fashioned way. But there’s no denying the wide-spread potential here. Consider the following:

  • People are naturally lazy, and they LOVE when technology makes their lives easier. How far-fetched did a world in which products and groceries showed up at your doorstep the same day you ordered them via delivery drivers and drones sound 10 years ago? Is imagining a world of AI-driven personal shoppers much bigger of a leap?

  • ChatGPT already processes three billion prompts per day! Is it that hard to imagine in a few years from now that number will be up to 10 billion per day? 100 billion?

  • Maybe AI personal shoppers are the wave of the future, maybe they aren’t. If they aren’t, not much changes, and we all keep doing what we are doing now. If they are, won’t you be glad you built up your brand presence on Walmart before the boom?

I foresee Walmart embracing AI and partnering up with ChatGPT leading to an absolute barrage of traffic to Walmart and its sellers’ pages. The work we put in on our brands today WILL pay huge dividends in the future.

There’s still time to get on this train before it leaves the station. All aboard! 🚂
